Welcome to a journey into one of the most emotional and awkward topics in the DMM/CPM world today. It is a universal issue, coming up everywhere.

There is something about money that tends to steal our joy and poison our fellowship. Money seems to lead us into comparison, covetousness, and envy. Those with more money struggle with savior complexes, compassion fatigue, and guilt. Those with less money struggle with victimhood, dependence, and local in-fighting that the outsiders sending money rarely see.

The problems created when outside money is injected into movements is a classic “elephant in the room” that everyone sees but few want to talk about. The awkwardness is compounded because different cultures have different and often conflicting ways to talk about money. Therefore, division, misunderstanding, and hurt feelings abound.

In the midst of all this, Satan smiles.

This resource was created to be a tool for inter-cultural teams of missionaries who have encountered problems relating to how outside money is used in disciple-making or church-planting movements.

It is centered around several real-life case studies which are presented in a short story format. The stories come from interviews with actual Christians who are from both Western and Majority World contexts. They are based on true incidents that really happened, although names and places have been changed to protect privacy. They represent recurring themes that many practitioners have faced regardless of their culture or context.
